+ add value to your audience
Do you have a product you absolutely love? Or maybe you want to recommend a service that totally changed your life? If you have a sizable audience on social or send a lot of traffic to your blog, you may want to consider becoming an affiliate marketer for some of your favorite brands. Affiliate marketing can create a passive income online for you while adding value to your audience!
I learned about affiliate marketing 4+ years ago when I stumbled on a blogger talking about her debt-crushing skills and ability to earn income primarily with affiliates. I loved the concept because I am so loyal to specific brands and when I fall in love with a product/service, I have to tell everyone. Seriously, everyone.
When you have a loyal, trusting audience and you can truly, honestly recommend a product without simply trying to make a little extra cash, affiliate marketing is such a great tool to spread the word about a great company + tool that’s helped you! One of my favorite things about affiliate marketing is the way it can support you, your family, your business and your lifestyle by adding some additional revenue into your business.
Affiliate Marketing Example
So, what do I mean by affiliates?
Here’s one that is relevant to almost any small business owner! Dubsado is my CRM of choice and has an amazing affiliate program. Anyone who chooses to use their service has access to a unique URL (here’s what mine looks like for Dubsado for example: https://www.dubsado.com/?c=emily-steele) that is able to track a user for a certain amount of time (every company is different) using cookies; if that person who clicks the link purchases the service or product, a commission is paid out.
The benefit is tremendous to businesses because their biggest champions are sharing their brand near and far and able to make a little extra (or a LOT extra) by doing so! I personally have found tremendous success using affiliate marketing with key products and services in my life. As a creative entrepreneur, I’m also on the hunt for brands that I know others will love and by creating content like this on a Sunday afternoon, I am then rewarded when purchases are made.
After diving into the Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing online course, I was hooked on this way of sharing information! I’ve taught this to college students, incorporated it into my own online course at Love Local, and with specific brands I talk about in my personal + business life.
Affiliate Marketing For Beginners
Maybe you had an instant OMG I need this in my life response, but for those of you who are unsure, I would consider all of the brands you are committed to using in your life, blog, business, etc. List those out and see if they have affiliate programs! If they do and you would be committed to talking about those brands to people, educating them on the pros/cons, it would be worth a try to share! One thing I LOVE about Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing is how generous Michelle is with her affiliates. She shared 40% of every sale with those whose link is used for purchasing. So if you end up taking the course and also loving it and sharing it with all of your friends, you too can benefit from affiliate marketing from an affiliate course (awesome)!
Michelle, the creator of the course, earns $100,000+ per month with her blog so I consider her a true thought leader when it comes to affiliate marketing. Nothing like learning from someone who is a living, breathing example of this and reaping the benefits while living on the road with her hubs… #goals.
Further Understanding Affiliate Marketing
I will say, not every brand has an affiliate program or some programs are very competitive to use. Some will only allow you to be an affiliate if you have X number of website views. Many though are open to anyone promoting their brand and doling out commissions to those who can help create new customers for them. Nothing beats a trusted recommendation and brands are getting that more than ever before.
So what does affiliate marketing mean to you? Will it help you add more value to your friends’ or customers’ lives? Think about the impact it could have if you carved out the time to focus on it consistently and decide if it’s worth it to you!
